This Earth Day activity themed unit includes 4 reading comprehension sheets (1 set in color and 1 in b/w). There are 8 main idea task cards that review the main idea of content. The task cards can be used independently of the comprehension sheets. The content of these sheets include the origins of Earth Day, who started it, the 3 R’s, composting, energy use and fast facts. There are 12 sets of vocabulary cards with the word on one card and a definition card. There are 11 worksheets and graphic organizers to review Earth Day concepts. These include: cut and paste (sort what items can be recycled), fact and opinion, making good choices, facts learned, vocabulary, ABC order and how to take care of the Earth.
There is also a nonfiction informational reader that reviews much of the information that is on the task cards.
You can use these Earth Day activities task cards in many ways:
- Scoot activity
- Hang them around the room and have students walk around and read them/answer the questions
- Center activity
- Fast finishers or individual practice
- Whole group (display the cards on a document camera)
The comprehension questions, worksheets and writing activities can be answered directly from the task cards.
